JCCO Sisterhood
~JCCO Mission Statement, adopted June 2009~
Sisterhood News
N’Shay Dorot! Its meaning? Women of the generations and the Hebrew name of JCCO’s official Sisterhood. Hardly half a year old, the Sisterhood has had a busy inaugural year. In keeping with its mission statement (see below), many women have already participated in programs enriching their Jewish and secular communities such as Walk for the Cure, sharing some fun canoeing on the Deschutes River, organizing our Shul’s Rosh Hashanah Potluck, and acknowledging each Bar/Bat Mitzvah with a special gift. Also, the Sisterhood just completed its 1st Annual Retreat on the peaceful Metolius River at beautiful Camp Sherman where participants (the young and the less younger!) enriched their Jewish heritage and friendship with a weekend of Torah study, singing and Israeli dancing, and created ideas and themes which will culminate in the Sisterhood’s own logo – an artistic expression of our name. Please join us for a special Havdalah as we unveil our own logo created for us by member and artist Dawn Emerson. Look for details as to the time but save the date – Saturday, January 23!!
Gift Shop Grand Opening December 6, 10-2 PM at the Shul! The Sisterhood has also been busy creating a Gift Shop, serving our congregants as well as others in our community. You will not want to miss the expansive and tasteful selection of various Judaica whether it be kippot, tallit, jewelry, Shabbat/Havdalah items, Passover pieces, or the Hanukkah “must haves”! Come and support the JCCO and the Sisterhood and you just might be the winner of a fresh baked challah by Cupcakes by Ida or a Starbuck’s gift card!
It’s true! Legendary singer/songwriter and recording artist, Debbie Friedman, will perform here in Bend at the illustrious Tower Theatre as part of her “Celebration of Hope” Tour giving our community the rare opportunity to experience the magic that is a Debbie Friedman concert! Critics and fans alike have noted Debbie's ability to connect with her audience in a deep and powerful way, resulting in sold out concerts at Carnegie Hall and in hundreds of cities around the world. WOW! The JCCO and the Sisterhood are organizing the event, partially underwritten by some generous sponsors! Please reserve the evening of Wednesday, March 24 for this must see event – Debbie Freidman, “Celebration of Hope!”
It is clear that our Sisterhood has been living its purpose and mission statement and with your support, will continue to do so as it grows and evolves in the future. As always, your participation is welcomed! Don’t be a stranger! Absolutely contact Holly Reeves Leventhal at 385-0180/610-4037 cell or Susan David at 788-8001 for concerns, questions, or to lend a hand. Don’t be a stranger!
Finally, a wonderful thank you to those who helped to create a wonderful weekend of fellowship and friendship – our energetic Sisterhood President, Holly Reeves Leventhal, the tender Torah teachings of Rebbetzin Judy Shupack, the heart felt lyrics of songstress Judy Ball, the inspiring voice of Brenda Tzipori, Dawn Emerson’s creative spirit, and our own lovely and knowledgeable librarian, Pat Givens. You ladies are AMAZING!
